MUSIC CALENDAR & NEWS

Mon, Aug 6:

10 am & 11:15 am the "HOLLYWOOD BOWL SUMMER SOUNDS" kid's series brings DIONYSOS GREEK FOLKLORE GROUP for two shows; 2301 N Highland Av, Hollywood; www.hollywoodbowl.com; 323-850-2000. This week's shows at the Bowl (same times, all week) celebrate the music of Greece. Under the artistic direction of ATHAN KARRAS, Dionysos will present a tale from Greek mythology through music, song, and dance representing the rich and varied authentic folklore of Greece, which spans several thousand years of civilization. Cast includes ANGEL BAZIGOU (known in the U.S. as jazz singer ANGEL BEE), former Greek TV star. One of six programs in the Bowl's series for children ages 3 to 11. Summer Sounds parking is free and available until 4:30 pm in Lot B (the Odin Street parking lot). Summer Sounds stage is located in the Museum Patio. Program is performed twice daily, repeated all week, and a different program is featured each week. Capacity is limited, so advance ticket purchase is encouraged. $6 per person regardless of age. While you're there, visit the Hollywood Bowl Museum with it's summer exhibit, "Rock & Roll at the Bowl" (free during Summer Sounds) and kids can enjoy the optional "Fine Arts Outdoor Studio," where professional artists guide children in creating detailed original works of art based on the week's theme. Kids choose a project they want to try, whether it's drawing, painting, sculpture or other fine art, and learn about art, artists and different cultures while they have fun. These optional participatory art sessions are at 10 am and 11:15 am, $4 per child; children must be 3 years of age or older to participate. Only participants need tickets.
